Regenerative Medicine

What is regenerative medicine?

Regenerative medicine is a type of alternative medicine that combines the principles of tissue engineering and biochemistry to repair and replace damaged soft tissues in muscles and joints. Regenerative medicine can help speed up and support the natural healing process for acute and chronic injuries, including minor muscle and ligament tears, muscle pain, joint pain, and degenerative joint damage.

What types of regenerative medicine are available?

The Harbor Comprehensive Health team uses the highest quality regenerative medicine products available and follows stringent FDA guidelines when performing all regenerative medicine procedures. Regenerative medicine options available at Harbor Comprehensive health include:

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)

PRP uses your own blood platelets, collected from a blood sample taken from your arm, to improve blood flow and nutrient supply to damaged tissues. This helps speed up the natural healing process of soft tissues and can help relieve pain and inflammation. PRP can also be used for aesthetic, anti-aging procedures.

How does regenerative medicine work?

Each regenerative medicine procedure has its own specific functions, though when looking at regenerative medicine generally, the process involves introducing naturally occurring tissues into injured tissues to speed up healing and provide the building blocks needed for repair.

While PRP supplies increased blood flow, regenerative medicine and human allograft tissue contain the cellular components — including amino acids, proteins, and nutrients — needed for tissue repair. When these products are introduced into the body, they stimulate a cascade of activities on a cellular level that enable growth and development of new, healthy tissues.

Quality of Treatment

You can undergo Regenerative and PRP Treatments at Harbor Comprehensive Health with full confidence that you receive the highest-quality regenerative products in the industry.

At Harbor Comprehensive Health, we obtain allograft tissues for your treatment straight from the best source – placenta-derived tissues that come from healthy donors. That means that they are not affected by a person’s age, lifestyle, genetics, poor diet, environmental toxins, and drugs.

Unfortunately, as we age, the number of your body’s stem cell decline. At 18 years of age, you only have about 40% of your body’s stem cells. By the time you are 30, you have 25% of your bodies stem cells. By the time you are 60, you have 5% of your bodies stem cells.

With the decrease in your bodies stem cells as we age and the lifestyle that we have lived, placenta-derived tissue allografts are more potent which means that may yield a better result. Placenta-derived tissue allografts are taken at the time of birth from a healthy mother. Research shows that they may help modulate the immune system, have anti-cancer activity and promote rejuvenation.

The recovery of the tissue allografts are performed by the America Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) accredited technicians utilizing aseptic techniques.

Before & After

Patient entered our office with knee discomfort/pain in left knee. Patient stated that the pain in his knee was consistent. The pain was made worse when climbing stairs or walking for long distances. He was recommended to undergo knee replacement surgery from his primary care doctor which he did not want to undergo.  After having an examination and x-rays at our office, it was determined that he had osteoarthritis of the left knee. On November 2018 the patient received regenerative treatments to the left knee. 6 months later the patient underwent a follow up x-ray.  After receiving the treatments in our office, the patient is no longer complaining of knee pain and is able to return to the activities that  he was unable to do before the procedure.

Below you can see the before after x-rays.
