Aesthetics Q & A

What types of aesthetic services are available?

The aesthetic team at Harbor Comprehensive Health offers personalized and detailed aesthetic services to help you look and feel your best. Popular services include:

Botox

Botox is an injectable medicine made from botulinum toxin that smoothes the appearance of fine lines and deep wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes and mouth.

Juvéderm

Juvéderm is a type of injectable medication called a filler that uses hyaluronic acid to gently fill in fine lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth for a fuller, more youthful look. It can also be used to plump your lips for a fuller appearance.

Microneedling

Microneedling is a procedure that involves pricking the skin with tiny, sterile needles to increase collagen formation. The team uses the SkinPen®, which gently vibrates for a controlled and precise treatment.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) facials

PRP facials combine the benefits of PRP and microneedling to increase collagen formation and improve blood flow to your skin for fuller, tighter, and brighter skin.

If you’re interested in multiple aesthetic procedures, the team may recommend a series of visits spaced out over several weeks to avoid irritating your skin.

How does Botox work?

Botox uses botulinum toxin, a neurotoxin, to temporarily paralyze the muscles in your face that cause wrinkles. This allows your skin to appear smoother for 4-6 months, depending on how long it takes your body to metabolize the medication. Botox also prevents the nerves in your skin from signaling your muscles to contract forcefully when you move your face, so it can prevent wrinkles from forming, too.

How does microneedling work?

Microneedling relies on the principles of collagen induction therapy (CIT) to increase collagen production in your skin. When your skin is pricked or punctured during microneedling, the microtears in your skin signal a natural healing response and your body produces more collagen to repair the damage. Collagen is responsible for skin’s elasticity, so as more collagen is formed, your skin becomes tighter and more resilient.

What is a PRP facial?

A PRP facial begins with microneedling. Then your provider brushes PRP derived from your own blood platelets onto your skin. The PRP solution is left on your skin to be absorbed through the microtears in your skin. When PRP is combined with microneedling, it helps to repair your skin more quickly, increase collagen formation, and improve fullness in your skin.
